Presentations

These are the presentations I’ve developed over the years. If you’d like me to speak to your group, contact me!

1. Planning a Photography Trip to the Lofoten Islands (Presentation)

This presentation, originally designed for and delivered to a local photography group, goes over the things you need to know when you’re planning to do photography above the Arctic Circle. I go over my own itinerary, talk about gear that is useful (and not) in different kinds of Arctic light, and show some of my own photographs from my trip there in September 2023.

2. Turning Photographs Into Quilts (Presentation/Trunk Show)

I turned (some of) the blog that you see here into an hour-long presentation and trunk show about turning photographs into quilts. I talk about the logistics of printing photos onto fabric, how I got into doing this project in the first place, and a little bit of the process of a number of the quilts I’ve done. I also show the quilts themselves. This presentation is ideal for guilds and others who are interested in modern quilting.

3. Preparing to Make a Bargello Photo Quilt (Workshop)

This four-hour workshop is in development. In the workshop, we talk about the process of choosing a photo, looking at the qualities of a photograph that would (and would not) make a good bargello quilt. We will look at participants’ photos as a group in order to evaluate them, helping each participant choose a photo to design. When we have photos to work with, we talk about the process of designing the quilts using a projector, large pieces of paper, and a bit of creativity. Participants walk away from the workshop with a designed quilt on paper, ready to move on to fabric choices and construction. This workshop can be delivered on its own or in conjunction with the trunk show on photo quilts and is designed for quilt guilds and other experienced quilters.
